The most powerful day of the year - Akshaya Tritiya
Share
Akshaya Tritiya (also spelled Akshaya Tritiya) is one of the most important and auspicious days in the Hindu tradition. It is celebrated annually in spring, on the third day (third tithi) of the bright crescent moon phase of the Vrishabha (Taurus) month of the Hindu calendar, which usually corresponds to April–May of the Western calendar.
What does the name mean? “Akshaya” in Sanskrit means eternal, indestructible, never-ending. “Tritiya” means the third day. This is the day when it is believed that any good activity (charity, investments, starting new projects, marriage, spiritual practice) brings inexhaustible and long-lasting benefits. People often buy gold or other precious things on this day, believing that this will bring prosperity. This is an auspicious time to start new jobs, businesses, invest, get married, build a house. In order to improve your karma, it is recommended to do good deeds: donate, help others, deepen spiritual practices.
This year, Akshaya Tritya will be on April 30. So, it is auspicious to spend this day consciously choosing only the best and most favorable actions for yourself. The energy of Akshaya Tritya is very universal and suitable for everyone, regardless of religion or tradition. Since on this day, everything you start or do with good intentions grows and strengthens many times over, it can be a wonderful opportunity to sow the seeds of your future.
Here are some ideas on how to celebrate Akshaya Tritiya :
-
Writing Intentions: Take time to reflect on what dreams, projects, or growth you would like to see in your life. Write down clear intentions, as if you are planting “seeds” that will grow.
-
Gratitude Practice: Be grateful for everything you already have. Gratitude on this day increases the energy of prosperity.
-
Spiritual practices: Meditation, prayer, affirmations, chanting mantras - everything you do will be "encoded" in a very strong light.
-
Doing good deeds: Give someone warmth, love, help, or a gift. Donations or kindness on this day strengthen karma very deeply.
-
Conscious purchase intention: If you buy something (since gold is traditionally purchased on this day), choose with the thought of prosperity and long-term benefits in mind. It can even be a symbolic gift to yourself - a reminder of your worth.
-
Creating personal rituals: Light a candle, prepare your own small altar with symbols that are important to you, say words of gratitude or a mantra of trust in life.
The most important thing: whatever you do, do it with a pure heart, joy, and faith that your actions have a strong energy of growth.
Mini ritual “Planting the seeds of dreams”
You will need to prepare:
-
A small candle (white or gold would be ideal)
-
A piece of paper and a pen
-
If you have one – a crystal (e.g. citrine, rose quartz or amethyst)
-
A quiet, cozy corner
Steps:
-
Cleansing:
Close your eyes briefly, take a few deep breaths in and out. Imagine that as you inhale, you are absorbing the light, and as you exhale, you are releasing doubts and difficulties.
-
Lighting a candle:
Light the candle while saying silently or mentally:
“May this light awaken in my life all that is bright, thriving, and alive.”
-
Writing intentions:
On a piece of paper, write down 3-5 things you want to sow for this special day. These could be:
-
dream,
-
a new habit,
-
internal state (e.g. more self-confidence),
-
a material goal (e.g., to grow financially).
Write as if it is already happening. For example:
“I lovingly welcome prosperity into my life.”
“I am finding work that brings me joy and abundance.”
-
-
Planting seeds:
Fold the piece of paper into a small sachet and hold it in your hands for a moment. Imagine your desires glowing with bright energy.
You can say:
“I sow these seeds with love, trust, and joy. May they grow and flourish in divine timing.”
-
Thanks:
Hold a moment of peace. Thank yourself, life, the Universe (or whatever force is close to you) for the opportunity to create.
-
End:
You can place the leaf on your altar, bury it in a pot with a plant, or keep it in a notebook as a saved promise to yourself.
